Volunteering to clear wind damage from roads in the mountains after a hurricane involves a series of critical tasks aimed at restoring access to affected areas. Our Team assisted with removing fallen trees, debris, and other obstacles that had blocked roadways due to strong winds. Our Team used chainsaws, heavy equipment, and hand tools to cut through large trees and branches, move debris, and create safe passage for vehicles.
In mountainous regions, the work can be particularly challenging due to steep terrain, limited access, and weather conditions. The goal is to restore vital transportation routes, allowing emergency responders to reach affected communities and ensuring the safe evacuation of residents and delivery of essential supplies.
Overall, this type of volunteer work requires physical endurance, teamwork, and a willingness to work in potentially hazardous conditions to support recovery efforts in the aftermath of a hurricane.
During our time there Our Team was able to clear many roads to allow residents a way out of their homes. Due to donations from our local community, Our Team was able to provide necessary supplies to those who were in need. Our Team worked alongside residents who showed great gratitude for the volunteer work in their area.
Below are some before and after photos of one of the impacted roadways. This roadway serves approximately 100 homes and had roughly 12 miles blocked by wind damage. Not only were roads affected, but driveways as well making it impossible for residents to leave their homes for supplies. Our Team, along with other volunteers from across the southeast, were able to clear roads to allow first responders and utility companies access to homes.
